If you are thinking of cooking something delicious, having fun while doing it AND want to get your recipe from an aesthetically pleasing source, look no further.
Bonnie Slotnick has been running Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks for the past 23 years. Previously in Greenwich Village, she is now in the ground floor of an East Village brownstone (with a garden in the back, open to her customers on weekdays!), which she has transformed into an Ali Baba cave of precious food-related items: from vintage cooking utensils to out-of-print cookbooks, everything is displayed on cute and colorful old-school dining tables and homey shelves she brought along with her.
Mostly made up of rare, secondhand, antique, very cool and out-of-print editions, her large collection of beautiful books focuses on food, drinks and cooking. In a world where all we do is cook and eat, not only will these books come in practical, but catching a glimpse of Bonnie's world is also a delight. This shop is definitely among the places I miss the most at the moment in New York.
This is one of the book selections Bonnie sent me from her magical hideout:
Tina Lee, Manners to Grow on
Niccolo de Quattrociocchi, Love and Dishes
Ninth Avenue Festival Cookbook
Complete Etiquette for Everybody - Things that are not done
Rian James, Dining in New York
Milton Glaser and Jerome Snyder, The Underground Gourmet
New York Hackmen's & Chauffeurs' Guide
Kate Simon, New York Places & Pleasures
